I got my complete DVD set of Caio Terra's Modern Jiu Jitsu. First of all the packaging is really cool. There are 4 individual packs that look like books and they come in a cover that holds them all.
The series covers: Mount, Closed Guard, Back, Side Control, North South, Turtle, some Half Guard, Butterfly Guard, Butterfly Passes, Standing Passes and Takedowns. The video quality is unlike anything I have seen before with BJJ instructional. Caio says this is Level One training for white and blue belts, but some of the stuff may be good for more advanced people as well (I've been training three years). I haven't got through all of it yet, but everything I have watched so far is AWESOME!
Caio links a bunch of the techniques so you definitely want to watch each position from the beginning. He has a series of attacks from the closed guard that are all off of the same set up and will make it very difficult for your opponent to escape as you move from one attack to the next.very cool. I have the Half Guard DVD too, but this is way different. This is a complete set of techniques from all the main positions. Really easy to understand and the camera angles are great.
I am still working my way though it, but it has been awesome so far. Here is one example of a string of techniques Caio uses from the Closed Guard. He gets the over hook on his partner's arm (he shows 3 ways to do this) From there he sets up 10 attacks from this one set up starting with 1.
Guillotine 2. When opponent defends he goes to Sweep 3. When opponent defends he goes to Armbar 4. Choke variation (both of these chokes are crazy good if you set it up right there is no way out).
Triangle, when the guy defends he goes right back to a choke 7. Another Armbar variation 8. Back to another Armbar 10. Omoplata You are probably familiar with all of the above technique names, but you probably have not seen them set up like this or linked together like this. This is the first DVD I have that really shows the connection between the techniques. I guess they are organized the way a Black Belt would execute them moving from one attack to the next, but they are easy enough for a white or blue belt to understand. Great stuff so far.
I finished watching the first DVD and it's really, really good. I think for higher belts, especially brown and black, a lot of it will be techniques they already know but at the same time I think most likely anyone can benefit from the set. Caio goes over very small details that Ive noticed even higher belts not doing over the years, perhaps to their disadvantage. For example, how one sits in the closed guard (or in general), where he recommends one sit on their tippy toes rather than flat or to the side. The first part of disc 1 goes over if you're in the closed guard, including how to have correct posture, hand placement, standing breaks, etc. The second part goes over various techniques when you have someone in your closed guard, such as breaking them down, various ways to get to the triangle, arm bar, sweeps, etc. His set up to the kimura was a 'wow, I'm dumb' moment.
Like a lot of what we learn, it seems so obvious yet I would have never thought of it. The production compared to other BJJ DVD's is outstanding. I imagine this will set the standard for future DVD's, or at least I hope so. I don't know Caio but he seems like a very nice guy. MobileBlackBelt, Caio, and his partners did an amazing job on this.
While I haven't watched all of it, I would think it's safe to assume it's good quality. I would buy it from mobileblackbelt.net. Budo sends products in the cheapest possible packaging they can but they'll take no responsibility when your product arrives broken or damaged. I've ordered several things from them (over 100 bucks each), they chose to package it in standard envelopes, but then blame UPS if it arrives broken and won't do anything to rectify the situation. Hopefully over the years they have competition because they suck.
Edit: It's 129 on Mobile. That's more than budo but you can be guaranteed it will arrive in good condition. Personally, I would order it from them and support the people who actually made it.
Overview In the words of the man himself, “ Modern Jiu Jitsu, as my DVD illustrates, isn’t new jiu jitsu just a better way to do the things we have always been doing. We aren’t reinventing the wheel, we are using better application of technique to make the wheel better.” Caio Terra Modern Jiu Jitsu series was released in early 2012 to almost. The set is available as 4 DVDs or 8 apps from iTunes and is available. This set has already gained the reputation as a go to instructional for beginner to intermediate practitioners. The combination of stunning visuals, first-rate audio and expert instruction ensures that this set will stand the test of time. In this article, I’ll be covering the entire set.
Included will be my easy to follow mindmaps (flow charts) that can be downloaded from a link at the end of the article. Technical Aspects: The videos are all shot in true HD.
I’ve watched them on my iPad and on an HD television. In both cases the visuals are best in class. Multiple angles and slow-motion replays are used effectively to fully demonstrate the techniques. The audio is of a similar high quality. You’re able to hear the rustle of feet and gi on the mats, which I’ll have to admit it pretty cool. Caio’s commentary is concise and easily understood as well.
Instruction: I don’t think that anyone can argue that Caio doesn’t know what he’s doing. Caio not only earned his black belt in less than 5 years but he’s proved his ability and technique in competitions dozens of times at the highest levels. Caio’s style is highly technical which translates well to instructionals and the techniques shown typically build off those previously shown. The techniques shown would be ideal for white and blue belts looking to fill in some holes. For higher belts the instructional gives an excellent example of how to effectively break down and teach a technique.
Caio Terra Modern Jiu-jitsu Review
Content: The Closed Guard (DVD 1, Apps 1 & 2) Mount, Turtle & Back (DVD 2, Apps 3 & 4) Butterfly, Standing Passes & Takedowns (DVD 3, Apps 5 & 6) Side Control & Half-Guard (DVD 4, Apps 7 & 8) Conclusion: You may have noticed that I really like this set. Of the dozens (and dozens) of instructionals that I’ve watched this is the best general purpose DVD I have (i.e.
Jiu Jitsu Near Me
Not specific to a single position or submission). The production value is easily the best I’ve seen and the material covered is exceptional as well.
The Modern Jiu Jitsu can be used to effectively learn new techniques, as a reference for techniques you’re already familiar with and as a primer on how to teach the techniques described. And the Apps can be found (prices vary based on length).
Be sure to take a few moments and check out Mobile Black Belts, and. More on Caio can be found at his, and.
